I know there isent much to Tech on the small engines. Recently I got a used motor from a friend. I went to tear it down and found the blue restrictor plate drilled out to the size of the opening on the head. When I was joking with my friend about it, he stated that he told his dad to make the engine run better and he was the last to work on it. It seems the track is taking care of the weight issue, it was good to see everyone weigh at the last race. I dont think anyone at the track would do this, I would like to do this for myself as well as everyone else.

The only cars that can be ran through tech are the Sherpa built Jr Sprint cars that all run the Briggs Raptor engine. We run restrictor plates and that's what is measured for tech. Red plates for the Rookies, Gold plates for the Pros. The quarter midgets do not have any rules. They run whatever for motors. And now even fuel injection. Where does this all stop? I think that now is the time that we parents get together and discuss what to do for a motor next year that everyone can run. That way everyone is on equal grounds motor wise. I feel that pulling the restrictor plates out of our Briggs Raptor motors is not the appropriate answer to the situation. The whole purpose of the restrictor plate was to take the $$$ out of the motors. If we pull the plates out of our Raptor engines we will be left with the same mess there was when we started racing. Whoever has the most money to build a motor wins the races. So thats not a good fix. The jr sprint class was desgined to give the kids and opportunity to race at a fairly inexpensive cost. Lets not lose focus of that!!!

That why we went to a lap time. If you went under a 14 second lap you were to move up to the pro class. Then we were going to set time for the pro class and if you went under that then you had to turn down your motor. I think thats was pretty cut and dry spend as much as you want on your motor as long as you don't brake the time for the class. But as we all can see thats not being inforced like once again we were told it would be. I'm telling you right now there is no way im buying a new motor for next year. If someone would just inforce the one and only rule that matters we would not have a problem. Thats what we all agreed on that sunday play day.

Thank you Kenny for your post. That's exactly the point that I am trying to make. There are a lot of these Jr Sprint cars in this community that refuse to come out and race for the same reason as Kenny refuses to buy some. (THAT"S 2 MORE CARS!!) I'm not a big fan of the track having the motors because then someone will have to be responsible for maintaining them and then clutches have to be installed before the motors are installed on the cars. Sealed motors with the seal being inspected before each race night will be about as adequate. Kenny you are correct on the price as well. Harbor Freight has a 6.5 hp motor for $150 that would work just fine. If you parents would like to get together and get things started for next year feel free to call me and we can set up a meeting and get this class moving in the right direction. Kenny you are more than welcome to attend!!

This sounds good to me. As much as I have spent this year trying to get a motor running I would be more than happy to donate a motor or two to the track. I think this will put everyone on the same playing field. Which means its fair to the kids, the adults, the track, better racing and will get alot more intrest in people wanting to join us on the track.

I would definately like to see rules that make it fair for all the kids to compete. As far as the engine goes, can the quarter midgets run a briggs and stratton?

Yes Shon you can run the Briggs motor and any motor for that fact as long as the output shaft/crank is the same diameter as required for your gearbox. You can run a clutch as well. Talk to Mike about the wet clutch he put in his purple car. Then you can install a small battery and a starter If you so choose and your push starting days will be over!!

well, it seems to me that all the parents need to get together and start getting some rules put in place for next year. although, we have to make some compromises and not make things costly for any of us.

Not sure that this saturday is a real good time to tear engines down. Gonna be a long night anyway with two shows to fit in. And if past weeks are any indication most teams will be wrenching like heck just to get thru the night. If we are teching just to see it done I would like to see it the following week. We are all for fair and square racing but the only Jr Pros running any kind of plate at all are Tanner and Braedon which seems silly to check as they are being out horsed already and would be even if we took the plate out. There are several in the rookie class that are plated but if its a tech inspection you want then do it on a night when nobody knows its coming not on a night we are trying to cram two of everything in.

Also agree with with Shon and Andrew that we need to be working this season to have solid rules in place next year. Not at all in favor of the track providing motors but would like to see a consistent tech format. Also do not think we should be shopping for the lowest priced thing out there. They do make several levels of sealed motors and racecars should be able to at least spin the tires.
